Civil Litigation
Dennis is experienced representing plaintiffs and defendants in many types of civil litigation, including property disputes, commercial litigation, and other types of disputes before both the Superior Court of Justice and the Small Claims Court.
Labour & Employment
One of Dennis' core areas of expertise, Dennis frequently acts both for employers and employees in matters involving:
- wrongful dismissal
- constructive dismissal
- human rights issues
- grievance arbitration
- union decertification applications
- and more.
Dennis especially advances his "a stitch in time" philosophy of the practice of law with his employer clients: Well-drafted and properly-implemented employment contracts and policies are essential for an employer to maintain control of its workplace and limit its exposure to liability in case of employment-related disputes. Administrative Law
Many of the legal disputes in Ontario have to go to tribunals and boards set up by the government, rather than the Courts. These bodies are varied: Each has its own set of rules and practices, and litigators not familiar with them are often uncomfortable in them.
Dennis is experienced in proceedings before the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, the Social Benefits Tribunal, the Landlord Tenant Board, and others.
Dennis will also seek judicial review of decisions of these tribunals, in appropriate cases.
Other
Dennis will assist clients with various corporate matters, including share or asset purchases/sales, and others. In addition, Dennis regularly assists his clients with wills and estate matters.
